Safety

Do no harm, built into every conversation

Free care must also be safe care. The assistant gives general guidance, explains its limits, and points people to a professional when they need one.

Emergency numbers

  • 911
National emergency (ambulance, police, fire)Medical emergencyUnified 911 national emergency hotline (medical/ambulance, police, fire, rescue)Where it works: National number, free from mobile and landline. Run by DILG under EO 56 and relaunched as 'Unified 911' in 2025. It has been rolled out region by region, and DILG reports 12.7M calls from January to August 2026. Layers between a person and harm

  1. Emergency detection first

Before any AI answer, each message is checked for red flags such as chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke signs, heavy bleeding, seizures, severe allergy or thoughts of suicide. If one is found, emergency numbers and crisis lines appear straight away. Text messages and phone calls get the same check.

  2. Shared clinical rules

Every specialist mode, including ones built by clinicians in the Agent Studio, follows the same rules: no diagnosis or prescribing, plain language, at most three follow-up questions, extra care for babies, pregnancy and mental health, and an urgency level on every answer.

  3. Approved sources only

The assistant can cite health information only after a clinician has approved it. Each source shows who published it and when it was reviewed.

  4. An independent safety reviewer

A second AI reads each answer next to the person's message, looking for missed red flags, unsafe doses, false certainty and missing advice to seek care. When it finds a problem, it adds a correction the person can see.

  5. Verified professionals

People can send a conversation to a nurse. Nurses use the nurse desk only after we check their licence and identity, and their actions are logged.

  6. Learning without reading your messages

We count safety events, such as an emergency warning shown or an answer flagged by the reviewer, without storing what anyone wrote. People can also mark an answer as unsafe.

What the assistant never does

  • Diagnose a condition or claim certainty
  • Prescribe, or tell you to start, stop or change a medicine
  • Give a child's dose without telling you to check it with a pharmacist
  • Ask for your full name, address or ID numbers
  • Keep talking when you describe an emergency without first telling you to get help
  • Pretend to be a human
  • Follow instructions hidden in a message or document that try to change its safety rules

Photos and documents

The assistant says when it is unsure about a picture and never diagnoses from one. When it explains a test result, it compares values only with the ranges printed on the report.

Report a safety concern

If an answer seemed wrong or unsafe, use the thumbs-down button under it and choose “unsafe”, or tell us through the support page. We read every report.
